Learning an instrument is one of the most rewarding and challenging things young people can do. It encourages discipline, commitment, tenacity, and resilience, and there are several studies which show correlation between musical training and academic success. Indeed, musical learning stimulates large portions of the brain, improving memory, recall, and abstract reasoning skills.
Learning an instrument also opens the door to a fantastic community of music makers of all types, and is a perfect way to build confidence, relieve stress, and generally have a lot of fun!
